NYC Volume Boost Mascara: What Boost? 07/31/2009

NYCVolMasc1-wm

Here’s what the brand’s website claims about NYC Volume Boost Mascara ($3.99):

Give your lashes the maximum boost!

Build each lash from root to tip for maximum volume … silicone resin “wraps” lashes for visible thickness on contact. Pro-Vitamin B moisturizes and nourishes lashes for silky smooth texture. Shorter applicator rod delivers precision control.

Sounds like a good enough mascara. Too bad most of these claims aren’t true.

Where’s the boost?: I didn’t get any volume out of this, even after four coats. All I got was slightly darker lashes.

Almost no pigment: I got this in Blackest Black and it barely looked like I had anything on, again, after four coats. At least it didn’t clump.

No crunchy lashes: Although it barely showed up on my lashes, it didn’t make them feel hard or dry, like some mascaras tend to do.

Low staying power: I had raccoon eyes within an hour. Not cute.

Usual applicator rod: NYCVolMasc2-wmAs you can see, it’s not so short like NYC claims. It’s not too big or too small, just the usual, really. Nothing special.

Other than making lashes feel softer, NYC doesn’t deliver on its claims. I’m glad I used a $5 coupon on this one ’cause I’d be pretty upset if I’d paid for it, even at such a low price.

Looks like it’s back to my HG mascara, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

Happy Friday, lovelies. :)

ZoyaTwitterDeal

If Zoya gets 5000 followers on Twitter by August 3rd, they’ll reveal a promo code for three free polishes (in the colors America, Ali, and Paz).

It’s deals like these that make it hard for me to resist Twitter. A lot of beauty companies offer Twitter-only deals so I may cave in. *sigh*

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips: Multi-purpose Awesomeness 07/28/2009

PFShimmerStrips-wm

Can’t you tell I’m a fan of these? Not only does Physicians Formula make my HG mascara, but they also make great bronzers. I’ve been using their bronzers for, well, ever. It’s what introduced me to the brand in the first place. Summer Eclipse was my first bronzer ever. Ah, memories. :)

Anywho, Shimmer Strips Custom Bronzer, Blush, & Eye Shadows are serious awesomeness. Three products in one? I’m all over it! Any product that multi-tasks is a huge plus in my book. Why do more steps when you don’t have to? This is Lazy Beautiful, after all.

Great Pigmentation: A little goes a long way. I noticed that the top most color shows up most on the skin. For example, Waikiki Strip’s peachy color at the top shows up the most on my cheeks. Interesting.

Super Shimmer: They weren’t kidding around when they called these Shimmer Strips. Since these are so pigmented and shimmery, I would suggest applying with a light hand and/or using a stippling brush so you don’t end up looking sweaty, or like a disco ball.

Multi-tasking Magic: You can do your eye and cheek makeup with just one of these compacts! Perfect for traveling, or if you’re just in a rush to get out the door. I’ve also dabbed some in the center of my lips, after applying lip balm, for a subtle highlight. These also make great highlighters for cheekbones and brow bones.

Low Staying Power on Eyes: Although these last all day on my cheeks, I find that they crease on my lids pretty quickly. So, a good primer is a must if you use them as eye shadows.

Over all, I love these bronzers/blushes/eye shadows. Multi-tasking products are the best!

You can find Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Bronzer, Blush, & Eye Shadow at drugstores and mass retailers like Target and Walmart for $12.95. The price just makes this product even better!

Bring On The Shine With Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss 07/27/2009

WnWGlassyGloss-wm

Holy crap, these glosses are shiny. The clear one, 311 Reflection (left), is comparable to Mac’s Lipglass ($14!). It’s great alone or over lipstick. Love the shine, and that it’s unscented.

308 Apricot Glaze (right) gives a pretty, sheer wash of peachy pink color, but stinks to high heaven! It smells like overly sweet, fake candy; it gives me a headache.  To make things worse, the smell lingers even after the gloss has faded or been wiped off. I love the color, but I just can’t stand the smell. Too bad.

Both are a bit sticky, but have great staying power and make lips look fuller due to the major shine.  When say major shine, I mean even Oprah named it the Best for Colorless Shine.

If you’re looking for a great clear gloss, I highly recommend Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss ($2.99). Just stay away from the smelly colored ones.

Wet N Wild Glassy Gloss can be found at drugstores and mass retailers like Target and Walmart.
